Last season was an exciting one for the Big K Guest Ranch & Outfitters. New for 2010, through the controlled drawing, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife opened up the Melrose Hunting Unit for eight months, for an any elk hunt. With the help of the ODFW, the LOP (Landowner Preference program) and our expert guides, we were able to achieve 100% success on bulls 5-point or better. All three bulls were caught on film and will be aired on the Outdoor Channel’s, Trijicon’s Game Chasers with Scott Haugen.
Our property in the Melrose Unit is located along the banks of the Umpqua. In June 2010 we began many habitat enhancement projects such as clearing brush, burning piles, spraying invasive plants and planting 25 acres of clover, tritikale and rye grass. These projects will provide more food, nutrition and travel areas for the wildlife.
We offer Guided Roosevelt Elk Hunts in the Melrose and Tioga hunting units.
Our elk hunts are on private and public land. Rates for 5 day hunts which include guide fees, overnight accommodations, and all meals are $4995.00.
