Silvers and Chinook

Silvers and ChinookFall Chinook fishing has been good, however it is starting to slow a bit, but the Silvers are starting to fill the bay so there will be lots of action most days. Remember we can keep wild Silvers as of 9/15 and October is a great time to cast for Salmon!

Chinook Limits Before Noon

Chinook Limits Before NoonSmallmouth Bass fishing on the Umpqua River Loop is still good and will be as long as the warm weather continues. Chinook Salmon fishing in tidewater has been as good as it gets: we have limited before noon most days but don’t expect that to continue. The Silvers however will be arriving in big numbers soon, so who knows what will happen? Check out our article “Casting For Tidewater Coho” by Scott Haugen in the September issue of Salmon,Trout,Steelheader.

We still have a few open dates in October so give us a call!

125 Smallmouth Bass per Day!

 125 Smallmouth Bass per Day!

Smallmouth Bass fishing at the Big K is UNBELIEVABLE right now. Most people are getting around 125 bass a day with lots of twos and threes, a few in the fours and an occasional five plus pounder. The weather has been in the mid eighties, wildlife is thick, very few boats and light winds in the afternoon…. It truly does not get better than this! Should have Salmon in next fishing report.

Umpqua River Fishing Report

Bass Fishing is peaking right now and will continue through September. Fall Chinook COMING SOON!

Yes those are my feet.

Smallmouth BASS…and one Green Eared Sunfish

Smallmouth BASS...and one Green Eared SunfishThe Bass finally went deep and appear to be in a summer pattern despite the cooler than normal temps, so the top water bite is not as consistent as it was for the last month and a half. And Wow! What a ride that month and a half has been! Nothing but fish on top for about 45 days in a row!  Everyone is catching more bass than they could imagine with lot’s of good fish in the mix.

We will run our first Fall Chinook trips starting August 19th and we are filling up fast!

Umpqua River Loop Report

Umpqua River Loop ReportThree words to describe Smallmouth Bass fishing lately: Topwater, Topwater and more Topwater!!! High river levels and cool water temps have created perfect conditions to fish on top all day everyday! Hope it lasts.

Big K Outfitters was privileged to have Gary Lewis’s Adventure Journal here to produce a T.V. show at the Big K this week . The show will air next March and it should be a good one. I broke out one of my secret topwater plugs that most people have never seen for the show and you’ll have to watch it in action for yourself.

Hope you enjoy the photos from this week.

Umpqua Loop Fishing Report

The Springer Season is finally over and it was a great one this year. We landed 81 !!! The sled boats are out, driftboats are in and the weather is good! We are now fishing Spawn / Post Spawn Smallmouth and we will start Shad fishing this week as the river drops to prime levels for Shad (finally)!!! I’ll Report on Shad next week.

Springer Season that Won’t Quit!

Springer Season that Wont Quit! This fishing report is basically the same as last week. The Salmon fishing just keeps on going, bass is good  and shad fishing is not.  We had a couple of days fishing the Umpqua at over 10′ and chocolate in color with a big group and all the guides did well in conditions that most people would not even considered fishing!

The Spring Chinook are still moving through the Big K Loop. This is the Springer season that never ends. We caught our first on March 23!  Scotty Worsley and Mike Springer picked up 7 Chinook yesterday on the Ranch and the bass fishing was also very good. Clay Kari is pictured here with a 5.1 pound smallie!

The river is dropping into prime shape and the Spring Chinook fishing and Smallmouth Bass fishing is on fire! With nothing but sunny warm days in the forecast, next week should be incredible on the Loop. Hallelujah!    Hope you enjoy the photos.

Umpqua River Fishing Report – Chinook and Smallmouth

Umpqua River Fishing Report Chinook and SmallmouthDue to high flows, we can report that our Spring Chinook season keeps on going strong (most days) as you can see in this week’s pictures. The higher than average river level is hampering the Shad season for us here on the Umpqua River Loop. Once the river drops we should have a better report on the Shad. The smallmouth bass fishing has been good, but not red hot yet. Last week we were averaging around 30 bass per angler with some good sized fish and a few smaller bass now in the mix.

Hope you enjoy this week’s photos.

Umpqua River Fishing Report – May 5 – 12

Umpqua River Fishing Report May 5 12The Smallmouth are finally spawning this week. It was an awesome pre spawn bass season! We caught hundreds of Smallies in the 3 lb. to 6.2 lb. range. We are now fishing the spawn and catching is little slower away from the beds temporarily. And slower is a relative term on the Umpqua River.

The Spring Chinook keep on coming through the Loop and it has been kind of like the weather; Some days good, others not so good, however the beauty and seclusion you’ll experience on this section of the river is priceless!

Hope you enjoy this week’s photos!
